Blogs R Fun

I enjoy looking at blogs. It's like having a whole stack of the best magazines. I find it it so neat that people all over the world love the same stuff I love.

Retirement

Today is my second day of retirement. So far so good. I've been doing some odd jobs and taking it easy. I found this pretty summer picture I took last year.

Before & After

I got this old rusty sap bucket for a dollar. My sister-in-law told me about this idea. Thanks, Laurie!

Found in An Old Book

I was cutting up a musty old book I got at Goodwill called Water Babies, when I discovered this poem. I've seen it before, but was surprised it was in this book. It seems the children in the story were begging the fairy to sing "The doll you lost!"

I once had a sweet little doll, dears,
The prettiest doll in the world;
Her cheeks were so red and so white, dears,
And her hair was so charmingly curled.
But I lost my poor little doll, dears,
As I played in the heath one day;
And I cried for her more than a week, dears;
But I never could find where she lay.
I found my dear little doll, dears,
As I played in the heath one day;
Folks say she is terribly changed, dears,
For her paint is all washed away,
And her arm trodden off by the cows, dears.
And her hair not the least bit curled:
Yet for old sake's sake she is still, dears,
The prettiest doll in the world.

Isn't this sweet?

Merry Christmas

The Joy of Giving

Somehow, not only for Christmas
But all the long year through,
The joy that you give to others
Is the joy that comes back to you;
And the more you spend in blessing
The poor and lonely and sad,
The more of your heart's possessing
Returns to make you glad.

"HAZEL"

I gave my sister-in-law a slip of a rosary plant my mother had for 50 years. She named it Hazel after my mother.

Remember these?

Revamping the Dining Room

I recently moved the huge buffet, so I have more room for other "stuff"!! I've dragged in an old gardener's bench to decorate. I'm still working on it.

Today's Project

Today I plan to repaint this old bureau. I planned to paint it white, but I've decided to go for a pop of color. I went to HD and bought a bright "awning red". Is it too red????? I can't wait to see it finished. I have it in my dining room. The red is perfect for Christmas and Valentine's, but after that???

Bringing Home the Tree

A Gift From an Old Friend

 My friend made this for me. It smells like the forest and I love the "old fashioness" of it.

Family Party

My sister-in-law (AKA Martha) made these. Adorable.

Starting My Blog

I have been inspired by looking at other blogs. The first thing I've found is that it's difficult to come up with a clever name. After my good ideas were already taken, I decided to name my blog "What Treasures".  I chose this name for the reason that I treasure a lot of things, both past and present. Of course I treasure life itself and friends and family and our memories, but this blog will be a spot to show the things that make me happy and the ideas that inspire me.
